Garnier BB Cream Review

I've been blessed with some really great friends.  Friends that will go to Hong Kong/Asia and buy BB creams for you to try.  Okay, so maybe that's not the only thing that makes them great, but I've been lucky enough to try this new HG/phenomenon of a product.  Initially, when I tried the asian BB creams, they all gave me either a gold or grey cast to my skin tone.  Not exactly flattering.  Especially when you have my skin colour.  My skin colour is odd.  It's Light-medium, more towards the light, but not fair white, it's more like muddy-light.  I have yellow undertones rather than pink undertones.  I also need medium coverage - I could NEVER get away with light coverage.  Even on the best of days, I couldn't.  I am always thinking that I could just layer the BB cream and be done with it.  Turns out, you kinda can't because it's also a moisturizer.  The more you put on, the oilier you look.  Nice...Not only do I look like a zombie with the grey colour cast on my skin, I'll look like an oily zombie.

First off, a quick explanation of how BB creams work.  Or, in theory....according to me...(HAHAHA?)  They are essentially lightly tinted all-in-ones (moisturizer, primer, skin perfecter, highlighter, kitchen sink...).  They are very lightly tinted.  This goes on underneath your foundation - yes, if you need it,  you still have to put on foundation.

For the longest time, you could only really get BB creams from Asia.  Since I didn't have a good go around the first time, I put the thought of BB creams out of my mind.  Just recently, everywhere you go, you're being bombarded by adverts for BB creams and it's all over Canadian beauty blogs!  I thought to myself, alrighty, I'll try it one..more..time.  Fingers crossed.

I purchased mine from Walmart for about $16 (sorry, I just shredded my receipt).  I picked up Light/Medium. There are a whopping total of three shades for you to choose from.

It's has a medium consistency and spreads very well.  The smell is fantastic like all Garnier products.  I used my fingers (which I never do) to apply the product.  It did have some colour to it, but it was very light.  Obviously, you couldn't layer this product, as I quickly found out because you begin to look oily and just sick in general.  Once again, this had a weird colour cast to it.  Not quite grey, but not quite normal either.  And it streaks a little if you apply too much product.  After this, I added my foundation, but alas, it made things worse - just way too oily.  I mean, I could feel a layer of something skin all day and it wasn't the best feeling at all.  I went nearly insane knowing that this was on my skin.  I couldn't wait to get home and take it off.  It was just too much.

Unfortunately, this product was not for me and I think that it had a little much moisturizer in it and I feel that I'm adding unnecessary layers and steps to my make up routine.  Perhaps this product was more for people with dry skin and not for people like me with normal to oily skin.  But it smells great!

  1. Hi there, new reader of your blog here!

I have been using Korean brands of BB cream and am very pleased. I have used Missha and Super 77(Hot Pink). My skin leans towards the oily side than dry and find Super 77 very good. I tried the Garnier BB and find it doesn't do anything for me. More of a tinted moisturizer to me than BB cream. Have you tried Super 77? I highly recommend it. Missha shades are more greyish in my opinion.

    1. Hi! Welcome to my blog! No, I haven't tried Super 77 and my skin leans towards the oily side too. Do you have any suggestions as to which websites I can hit up? Thanks for the tip!

  2. I got the name wrong, should be Skin 79. You can try pretty and cut.com or try eBay.. Just be careful to pick a good seller as there are fake ones out there.

  3. Thanks for your review! I think BB creams are just a fad right now. I've been curious about trying one, but based on reviews I've read they seem like just a glorified tinted moisturizer. That's my opinion, anyway!
Thank you for visiting my blog! I followed you, and look forward to seeing your blog grow! :)

    1. Thank you for following! I'm going to have to agree with you. As much as I like the concept of BB creams (and I'll give it another go), unless you're a flawless skin kind of girl, these aren't for you. I definitely prefer the asian ones over the North American ones though. :)
